MADRID, Spain.- This Thursday, the young Ernesto Figueredo Alarcón passed away, who had shot in the head last Friday by a policeman who was a neighbour and friend of his. Since that day, Figueredo Alarcón, 23, had been admitted to intensive care at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Teaching General Hospital, where he was kept alive only thanks to the machines to which he was connected, after having been diagnosed with brain death.
Figueredo Alarcón’s family confirmed his death CubaNet. According to relatives, the police officer responsible for the shooting remains in custody, although they have no information on this matter, as the authorities have not provided them with any details on the case.

Thank you for being an incredible friend. We honor your life by celebrating the memories we shared. Your passing saddens us, but your legacy will live on through our memories and eternal love. RIP my friend.”
The tragic incident occurred at Figueredo Alarcón’s house, in the Rosa La Bayamesa neighborhood. According to statements made by the family to this newspaper, Ernesto and the police officer were alone in a room, talking, when the shot was fired. There was no problem or argument between them at the time, so they do not know what could have caused the fateful event.
Despite the lack of official information, people close to the case claim that it was an accident. Delia Ramírez, a friend of Figueredo Alarcón, used her Facebook account to report that the police officer, known as “Chucho, El tirado,” had mental problems and was not in a condition to carry a weapon or belong to the police.
In his statements, Ramirez detailed: “Chucho used to work in the anti-vectorial campaign and then he took a course, became a police officer and was given a gun, to a person who is not in his right mind. The person who did it is even more abnormal. They got along well and yet he ruined Ernesto’s life.”
However, the family of the deceased denies that the police officer had any disability.
Delia, who kept up to date on her friend’s condition, was one of the first people, along with Héctor Osorio, to express her grief at the death of Ernesto Figueredo.
On Facebook she wrote: “How unfairly you left us. You didn’t deserve this… You had a whole life ahead of you and it was taken away from you like this. My God, nothing, nothing will repair your loss, the great pain that all of us who knew you feel.”
