FANB commemorates 201 years of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo

From Catia la Mar, La Guaira state; officers of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), held an event on Wednesday to commemorate the 201st anniversary of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo. The event was attended by the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López; the commander of the Bolivarian Navy, Admiral Neil Villamizar; the governor of the state of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán; as well as the Strategic Operational Commander of the FANB (Ceofanb), Domingo Hernández Lárez.

For his part, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, congratulated the Bolivarian Navy and recalled the crucial role of the military component on this founding date, when the Venezuelan nation defeated the troops of the Army of the Crown of Spain. “A good lesson that we learned in time is that we must never neglect the guard and permanent vigilance,” said the national Executive.

Likewise, President Maduro instructed each soldier of the FANB to “raise morale, operational readiness, discipline, commitment, the oath of absolute loyalty to the people,” as well as to follow the ideals of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, Antonio José de Sucre, Francisco de Miranda, Rafael Urdaneta, and the Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez.

The event saw the deployment of vessels from the Bolivarian Navy, including the ocean patrol vessel, Yekuana PO-13; the coastal surveillance vessel, ANBV Comandante Eterno Hugo Chávez; as well as the Guardián G-25 boats. During the event, Minister Padrino López shared congratulations with the present Task Group No. 10, through radio transmissions.

Later, Padrino López awarded decorations to a group of military personnel present.
