San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chis., More than 2,000 migrants of different nationalities who are participating in a caravan with which they intend to reach the northern border of Mexico left Tapachula yesterday for the municipality of Huehuetán, police sources reported.
The undocumented migrants from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Colombia and other countries left Tapachula at 4 a.m., after a day of rest following the walk they began the previous Sunday along the Suchiate River, on the border between Mexico and Guatemala.
They said the contingent, which included many children, crossed without problems the checkpoint operated by the National Migration Institute (INM) and the National Guard in the town of Viva Mexico, located on the outskirts of Tapachula, a town 38 kilometers from Suchiate.

Some commented that their intention was to arrive yesterday at the municipality of Huehuetán, 26 kilometers from Tapachula, spend the night and continue today towards Huixtla.
They added that so far they have passed through all the checkpoints placed in the area by the INM and the National Guard without problems, so they are confident that they will be able to advance as planned, reach the northern border of Mexico and then try to enter the United States.
