It was an unusual match, with a dramatic and chaotic ending, at the start of the football competitions for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Morocco beat Argentina 2-1 on Wednesday, in a match in which the Albiceleste He had scored an incredible goal to tie the game 2-2 in the 105th minute.that is, 15 minutes into stoppage time.

Cristian Medina’s goal sparked anger among Moroccan fans, who threw bottles at players, set off firecrackers and some invaded the pitch.

How did the chaos happen?

Morocco were aiming for a big win in their opening match at Paris 2024 until the chaos on the pitch occurred.

Soufiane Rahimi had given the Atlas Lions a 2-0 lead, the result of a goal in the final seconds of the first half and a penalty at the start of the second half.

The Albiceleste had taken the lead and had discounted at 68 with a goal from Giuliano Simeoneson of coach Diego Simeone.

Mascherano’s team continued to search for the equalizer.

Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg had given a 15 minutes added time at the end of the 90 minutes, due to the multiple pauses and the invasion of the field by two fans during regular time.

This caused disbelief among the Moroccan bench and angered the fans.

The match had to be suspended for more than an hour due to incidents on the pitch.

Already in the 105th minute, Argentina had an incredible play: after several rebounds and balls that crashed into the goal, Cristian Medina finally headed the ball home to tie the game.

It was a miraculous goal, which the Argentines celebrated with everything on and off the field.

So Moroccan fans began throwing bottles, glasses and even a firecracker. Some even entered the fieldwhich led to the entry of guards and police to contain them.

It was chaos that led the teams to return to the locker rooms. Some thought the game was over. In fact, the television broadcast had indicated the end of the match.

But in reality the referee had only suspended it. Then the organizing committee reported that it was happening a VAR review of Medina’s goal.

More than an hour after the interruption, the players returned to the pitch. Then the referee announced the VAR decision: offside in the goal play.

After three more minutes of play, the match concluded with a victory for Morocco.
