The Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) launched, this Wednesday (24), five public calls with total funding of R$ 267.4 million for research projects of the Green Mobility and Innovation Program (Mover), the former Rota 2030.
At the launch of noticesat the headquarters of the National Confederation of Industry, the Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services and Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, highlighted the importance of the Mover program for the development of decarbonization projects in the automotive industry, which has stimulated investment announcements in the sector.
“Mover has already mobilized R$130 billion in private sector investments and 2% of the financial credit goes to the National Fund for Industrial and Technological Development (FNDIT), which goes to structural projects, digitalization projects and various projects, in a transparent manner and at the same time, seeking to stimulate innovation, decarbonization and job creation”, explained Alckmin.
The initiative is the result of a partnership between Mdic and the National Industrial Training Service (Senai) and the Support Foundation of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Fundep).
Structural Projects
Of the total calls launched, which total R$267.4 million, R$182.8 million are for specific structuring projects for the Brazilian automobile production chain.
Senai Innovation Institutes, universities and other science and technology institutions will develop new technologies and processes with the potential to change the technological and productive level of the Brazilian automotive chain.
Senai’s Innovation and Technology Superintendent, Roberto de Medeiros Junior, highlighted that Mover brought innovations to Brazilian industry. “We discussed how we can build projects that can impact not just two or three industries, but that impact the entire chain and elevate the national industry to a cutting-edge regime to bring to our industry what is new, a competence, a densification of the chain so that we can compete internationally.”
The president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Ricardo Alban, highlighted that investments in the automotive chain can be spread to other segments of Brazilian industry, which demand more technology and sustainability. “The initiative is important so that we can meet the infinite demands in innovation, research, adaptation of new technologies, in a new concept of sustainability.”
The Director of Innovation at the National Union of the Automotive Components Industry (Sindipeças), Mauricio Muramoto, sees investments in structural projects as important for the automotive sector to contribute positively to the decarbonization of the planet. “Brazil is already making a positive contribution to decarbonization, thanks to our biofuels, and from now on, we will further boost the industry through these structural projects at the forefront of knowledge.”
Fundep president Jaime Arturo Ramirez stressed that the calls demonstrate the commitment of the government, the productive sector and universities to sustainability. “This first step within the scope of Mover poses greater challenges for our future. May we have similar initiatives in other areas to better serve our society.”
The executive director of the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), Igor Calvet, drew attention to the integration between research institutions and the automotive chain for the country’s economic development, due to the sector’s importance in the Brazilian economy. “The automotive industry and its entire long chain represent that, for every R$100 produced by the Brazilian industry, R$20, or one fifth, comes from the automotive industry. We are 20% of the GDP. [Produto Interno Bruto] industrial. The drag power that this industry can have is tremendous.”
Structural projects
You five notices public announcements made this Wednesday will be published on the Platform Innovation for Industrywith different application deadlines. In the case of structural projects, interested parties will have two months to prepare their proposals. This is because the period for submitting proposals seeking funding will be from September 11 to 19. The preliminary results are scheduled to be released on October 28.
