The Civil Defense teams maintained, during the dawn of today (17), the attendance to occurrences in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio. The professionals acted in support of the Fire Department in the areas where there are suspected victims. The operations were carried out in Caxambu, Rua Pedro Ivo, Rua Washington Luiz and Rua Teresa, where landslides occurred, caused by the storm on Tuesday (15). In places, where there were suspicions of buried victims, the agents gave support to the Firefighters to carry out the rescues.
In Caxambu, the work of agents with the Fire Department, removed two bodies at dawn and six other victims were removed from the rubble on Rua Teresa. At Washington Luiz, agents evaluated a water leak and there were no victims at the scene. On Pedro Ivo Street, an inspection was carried out, where there is landslide. According to the latest data released by the Civil Defense, 399 occurrences were recorded, among which 323 referred to landslides. “The teams also attended to situations of structural and geological risk assessment on roads and properties, in addition to preventive inspections and rounds around the city”, completed the Civil Defense of the municipality.
Mayor Rubens Bomtempo said that the intense work continues for another day, integrating the teams with the reinforcement of various bodies “to guarantee the necessary support for our population” in the various areas of government such as Works, Services, Security and Public Order, Health, Education, Social Assistance, Planning, Administration, in addition to the Municipal Development Company of Petrópolis (Comdep) and the Petropolitan Transit and Transport Company (CPTrans).
The 33 support points set up in public schools received 705 people by the end of this morning. The municipality suspended classes so that care for families can be carried out by professionals from Social Assistance, Health, Education and Community Agents.
Between dawn and the morning of this Thursday, the work of the teams was reinforced by members of the State Institute of the Environment (INEA), of the Civil Defense of the State, and of the municipalities of Maricá and Guapimirim. At the Civil Defense headquarters are concentrated officers of the Army, Military, Civil and Federal Highway Police, APA Serra da Estrela and ENEL.
For the municipal secretary of Civil Defense and Voluntary Actions, Lieutenant Colonel Gil Kempers, the joint work has resulted in more agility in operations. “We are with teams from different agencies committed to supporting the occurrences and the work of recovering the city. This support has been of great importance and has made it possible to speed up calls”, he noted.
