The executive secretariat of the PIT-CNT will analyze next Tuesday the request made by several unions to review the general strike of men and women on international women’s day, on March 8, as reported by the vice president of the PIT-CNT, Joselo López, to The Observer. The secretariat will decide whether to call an Expanded National Representative Table to reconsider the strike vote.
According to López, the idea of a 24-hour general strike on that date was raised in December, together with a mobilization for the Yes to the repeal of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC)Y was ratified on February 10 “unanimous”. In that month and a half no raise occurredcontinued the vice president, but “the definition of some unions” led to the decision being discussed again, he said.
In recent days, several unions have requested that the decision adopted by the union central in assembly be reviewed. They requested that the Executive Secretariat call the Representative Table and they want the strike to be “only for working women”.
The Police Union (Sifpom) also took this position on February 14, understanding that “When women are brought to the streets it cannot be with conditions or selectivities, they are all, it is not a day to make political differences. Misrepresenting it would be a setback”reads a statement.
The situation arises after the Feminist Intersocial, in charge of the 8M march held every year, come out at the crossroads of the strike as proposed by the PIT-CNT, above all because of the implication of the LUC in it. “March 8 is a specific opportunity that feminist movements have to raise all the issues on the agenda. We are not losing our lives only in the LUC referendum”, affirmed the member of the collective Valeria Caggiani to The Observer.
What’s more, this Thursday the National Commission for the Yes, that make up the PIT-CNT, the Broad Front and other organizationsdecided not to carry out activities on that date, unless feminist organizations so requestedreported from the collective to The Observer.
