1-1: Rosario Central eliminates Inter

Rosario Central advanced to the round of 16 on Tuesday South American Cup and cut short Internacional’s dream, which ended up being eliminated from the tournament after only managing a draw (1-1) at home with the Argentines in the Beira Río stadium in Porto Alegre.

Augustin Sandez opened the scoring for Rosario with a goal at 19 minutes of the match and Alan Patrick equalised for the Brazilians after the break.

The Argentine team needed a draw away from home, having won the first leg 1-0 at home last week.

The power of the Argentines was felt for most of the match with bursts of lucidity from Internacional, who managed to gain hope after the draw.

The dominance with which Colorado entered the field vanished with Sández’s goal that left the Brazilians uncoordinated until after the break.

There, hope began to shine again for Inter with Patrick’s goal, who headed the ball into the net after a header from Ecuadorian Enner Valencia that the Argentine goalkeeper ended up deflecting towards the scorer.

From then on, the Brazilians’ attempts that seemed to fade away against an offensive Rosario gained strength towards the end of the match.

In the final minutes of the match, however, the Porto Alegre team went on the attack, with some unclear finishes from Bruno Gomes, Wesley and Valencia.

Rochet even took part in that final offensive, leaving the goal to reinforce Inter’s attack.

The result has left new coach Roger Machado dejected once again, as he has yet to find a solution for Inter, which has now gone nine games without a win, including five draws and four defeats.
