The mayor of Cerro de las Cuentas, Humberto Allende, has been sentenced to five years and two months in prison for the crime of rape against a woman over 80 years old.
The sentence stems from events that occurred in 2019 during the election campaign leading up to his election. According to the victim’s lawyer, Allende had been sending suggestive messages to the woman before the attack took place.
This action culminated in a day when, after knocking on the door of the woman’s house, he entered without her consent and sexually assaulted her. The lawyer narrated: “One day he knocked on the door and entered. That day he grabbed her by the arms and took her to the bedroom. He groped her, threw her on the bed and raped her.”
The sentence was handed down on Tuesday and has been confirmed by various sources, including reports from The Daily, Carmelo Portal and The Observer.
Another one of the National Party’s scandals
After suffering these acts, the woman’s emotional health deteriorated, which led her to seek refuge in her daughters’ house in another town in Cerro Largo. “After the events, she spent a few days in Cerro de las Cuentas and began to feel ill, not wanting to be at home, not being able to sleep in bed. She slept sitting up,” explained her lawyer.
In the context of his legal problems, Humberto Allende was recently challenged for a different violent incident. In 2023, a 78-year-old pensioner reported him for physical assault, which has led the Justice to open a new investigation against him.
Local sources confirmed that forensic evidence supported the man’s claim that he had been the victim of a beating by the mayor.
