The Dominican Medical Association urged citizens on Tuesday not to be alarmed by suspected cases of anthrax in Haiti.
«There is no reason to create panic or unnecessary alarm at this time. Go about your normal life,” said Waldo Ariel Suero, president of the doctors’ union.
Suero also instructed the medical population nationwide to be alert and vigilant to prevent the entry into the country of this bacterial infection that affects the skin and compromises hair follicles.
“As doctors, it is our responsibility to provide full support to the country’s authorities, such as the Ministry of Public Health, the National Health Service, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Agriculture, among other state institutions related to the issue, in order to join forces to prevent the entry of this disease into our country,” he said.
The owner of the CMD He recalled that anthrax occurs most frequently in animals such as horses, cows, goats, pigs and others.
“Humans usually become infected accidentally when they come into contact with the infected skin of an animal. Transmission between humans is almost impossible,” the doctor said.
Finally, Waldo Ariel recommended following the guidelines and information issued by the relevant bodies mentioned above.
