The Constitutional Court (TC) severely reprimanded Inés Tello’s lawyer, Omar Cairo, for his public behavior in the media in relation to the resolutions issued by said body.

“It is a contradictory behavior on the part of a lawyer who comes to this instance seeking protection for the rights of his client (Tello). It is paradoxical and incongruous, at best, or evidence of the use of a double standard at worst, by claiming that the resolutions of a jurisdictional instance are valid, constitutional and obligatory when they are in favor of his own interests, and invalid, unconstitutional and not acceptable when they are contrary to them (when they are not favorable).”
The TC’s warning is contained in a resolution in which it declared inadmissible the appeal for reconsideration filed by Cairo on behalf of his client, Inés Tello, as a member of the National Board of Justice (JNJ) for not being a party to the dispute over jurisdiction that was being discussed in that forum between Congress and the Judiciary. The TC has yet to decide whether to revoke the injunction with which Tello and Aldo Vásquez returned to the JNJ.
“The Constitutional Court has stated that the lawyer’s statements of contempt of court exceed the limits of the defense,” explained constitutional lawyer Aníbal Quiroga.
