“Revolutionary” T-shirts, another waste of public money left by 45/19

“Revolutionary” T-shirts, another waste of public money left by 45/19

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo continues to use the treasury, which comes from the taxes of each Nicaraguan, for partisan political purposes. Mayors, universities, institutes, ministries and state companies reported, through the Electronic Administrative Contracting System (Siscae), purchases of thousands of t-shirts, caps and flags “alluding to the Revolution.”

Article 66 It was found that the mayors, institutes, ministries, companies and public universities, only those that reported their purchases in Siscae, spent 2,85,551 cordobas on the acquisition of 10,781 t-shirts, which were used for the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, in which public workers were forced to participate.

The purchases also included, in eight of the procedures, purchases that totaled the acquisition of 1,840 caps, 730 flags or pennants, 1,100 scarves and 300 bandanas.

The data was extracted from a data analysis carried out by this media outlet on 34 purchasing procedures, reported in June and July, by 10 municipalities, 4 universities, 4 state-owned companies, 2 institutes, a ministry and a center.

It is worth mentioning that 10 of the purchasing processes, although they had already completed the deadline for their award, were still under the category of “evaluation” or “current”, in which no data is shared about what was purchased, to whom it was awarded and for what amount.

«T-shirts to celebrate the Revolution»

Most of the institutions and municipalities that reported their purchases of “T-shirts” did not indicate in the details of the procedure whether these would be used to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, which is commemorated every July 19 by the Sandinista Front, controlled by the Ortega Murillo dictatorship. However, in the specification documents they did even locate emblems, designs and logos to be used, with which they revealed the purpose of the purchase of these garments.

In other cases, such as minor contract 74/2024, reported by the Indian Bluefields Caribbean University (BICU), for the acquisition of 200 t-shirts, public entities did not hesitate to specify that said garments would be acquired for “UNEN and administrative workers of Bilwi, alluding to 45/19.”

The Mayor’s Office of Muy Muy, according to the review carried out by Article 66also reported textually in the name of its purchase that the acquisition of 75 and 210 flags was made in “celebration of the National Day of the Revolution.”

The Ortega government also spared no expense in the central event held on July 19, where the new dictator of Nicaragua celebrated the country’s victory over the Somoza dictatorship 45 years ago.

At the event, the Ortega regime set up a heart-shaped stage for which it ordered hundreds of plastic chairs, professional lighting, giant screens, a central heart filled with flowers and lights with the FSLN letters, and a large platform where the dictators posed. The cost of the show that was publicly put on for the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Revolution is once again unknown due to the policy of concealing information that the dictatorship maintains.
