The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, was sworn in this Monday Sigmund Freund Menaas the new Minister of Public Administration, already Carlos Jose Valdez Matos, at the head of the Ministry of Youth.
The vice president expressed her confidence that the new ministers will leave their mark on their respective institutions and that they will also be able to carry out actions that will allow the country to achieve its objectives.
Peña congratulated the newly appointed incumbents and reiterated his and President Luis Abinader’s support.
“Committed” ministers
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Sigmund Freund said that he assumed the post with excitement and commitment to fulfill the new responsibility delegated by the Head of State.
“Public administration still has many important tasks to tackle. Renewing, modernizing, transforming, improving public services, improving the professionalization of public servants, making a cross-cutting task of modernizing and reforming the State. And we are pursuing all of these objectives,” Freund stressed.
Meanwhile, Carlos José Valdez Matos expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to President Luis Abinader, Vice President Raquel Peña and all young Dominicans who are looking for an opportunity.
“They will not feel like a new Ministry of Youth, because there is already a lot of work done. But rather a ministry closer to my origins, to the origins of Dominican youth, which are the neighborhoods, and since I am the fruit of an opportunity, the Ministry of Youth will become an entity of opportunities for many young people,” he said.
The designations
The appointments of Ministers Freund and Valdez are contemplated in Decree 390-24, promulgated on July 17, which also specified the appointment of a third minister: Porfirio Andrés Bautista García as Administrative Minister of the Presidency.
The aforementioned Executive Order also repealed Article 10 of Decree 324-20, of August 16, 2020, and Article 5 of Decree No. 329-20, of August 16, 2020.
Likewise, it repealed Article 2 of Decree No. 429-20, of August 31, 2020, and Decree No. 804-21, of December 15, 2021.
Sigmund Freund and Carlos Valdez will replace the previous ministers Tomas Dario Castillo Lugo and Rafael Jesus Feliz Garcia, respectively.
