The Attorney General of the Nation, Luz Adriana Camargoreported through a statement shared on the social network X that it would submit to distribution the knowledge of the actions against the former deputy and eldest son of President Gustavo Petro, Nicolás Fernando Petro Burgos.

“Taking into account the nature and type of crimes for which the oral trial has been investigated and is progressing, criminal news related to money laundering and illicit enrichment, the case will be assigned to the Prosecutor’s Office that corresponds by distribution in the Specialized Directorate against Money Laundering of the Delegate for Criminal Finances.“, the document reads.
The entity noted that “declared founded the recusal formulated to the prosecutor 001 Delegate before the Superior District Court, the Attorney General of the Nation“, Mario Burgos being the official to whom the entity refers.
Burgos was in charge of the process against Nicolás PetroHowever, due to a challenge by the defense, he was removed from the case. The former deputy was brought to trial by the prosecutor.

“As a consequence of the decision adopted by the National Commission of Judicial Discipline to formulate charges against the prosecutor Mario Andrés Burgos Patiño, the Delegate for Territorial Security of the Attorney General’s Office declared founded the recusal presented by the defendant Nicolás Petro against the official“, said a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office dated July 10, 2024.
This decision was based on the process that Burgos has open in the National Commission of Judicial Discipline (CNDJ)so the attorney general had to choose who would replace the prosecutor.
