US President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race for re-election in a statement posted on social media. He asked for a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement for the November 5 election.


US President Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, that he is renouncing re-election in that country. In a statement posted on social media, he said that “it is the best thing for his party and for the country.”

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to be your president and while my intention has been to seek re-election, I believe that the best thing for my party and for the country is for me to resign and concentrate solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” he posted.

Biden said that over the past three and a half years, they have made “great progress as a nation.” In that sense, he said that “the United States has the strongest economy in the world and that they have made historic investments” in the reconstruction of that country.

“We have succeeded in lowering prescription drug costs for children and expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years and appointed the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court,” reads the statement shared by the president.

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all of this work. And let me express my sincere thanks to the American people for the faith and trust they have placed in me,” Biden concluded.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5 this year. Voters will not only choose their next president and vice president, but will also be determining the composition of Congress and the Senate.

On Sunday, Biden asked for votes for Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement for the November 5 elections, in a message on social media X, a few minutes after announcing that he was leaving the presidential race.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats: it’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it,” he said.
