Tomás Yarrington Ruvalcaba, former governor of Tamaulipas, would be handed over to the Mexican authorities as a deportee towards the end of August, and three arrest warrants will be executed for alleged links with the Gulf and Mexican cartels. The Zetasreported officials from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

On July 12, the former Tamaulipas governor was released after serving the sentence imposed by the U.S. justice system, but remains in the custody of immigration authorities in that country, which has already requested his extradition via deportation so that he can be tried in Mexico, according to the sources consulted.

Regarding the warrants against Yarrington Ruvalcaba, it should be mentioned that the first of them was issued in 2012 for crimes against health, and because he evaded justice, the then Attorney General’s Office (PGR) offered a reward of 15 million pesos to anyone who provided information leading to his capture.

The second warrant against the man who governed Tamaulipas from 1999 to 2004 was issued in 2017 for crimes against health, operations with illicit proceeds and organized crime, related to receiving bribes from the Gulf cartels and The Zetas and then use the illicit resources to acquire real estate in the United States and invest in assets in the national territory, for an amount of more than 12 million pesos.

The third arrest warrant is related to events that occurred in 2009. The request to release the warrant was made on January 22 of this year, once the United States government announced that the former Tamaulipas governor would be released next November, but the action was brought forward because he had pleaded guilty to the crimes he was charged with in that nation.

The interviewed authorities said that Yarrington is under surveillance by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, since he was detained in Italy with false documents and was later extradited to the United States.
