Grilled Chicken Day: There are around 13,000 chicken farms throughout Peru, according to Midagri

As part of Grilled Chicken Day, celebrated every third Sunday in July, Peru pays tribute to this emblematic dish that has conquered national and international palates.

With nearly 13,000 chicken restaurants nationwide, rotisserie chicken has become a symbol of family unity and a fundamental pillar of the Peruvian economy.

According to Enrique Gutiérrez Ochoa, coordinator of the poultry and pork chain of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), this delicious delicacy not only delights Peruvians, but also generates around 460,000 direct and indirect jobs in the poultry chain.

“Roasted chicken is a dish that unites all Peruvians”says Gutierrez Ochoa. “You can eat it with family, with friends, on any occasion. It is a versatile dish that goes with everything and is also a source of high-quality protein that is affordable for all budgets.”.

Per capita chicken consumption in Peru reaches 56 kilos per year, a figure that increases by 6% annually. This positive trend reflects the Peruvians’ fondness for this nutritious and inexpensive food.

On Grilled Chicken Day, we celebrate not only a delicious dish, but also a symbol of our cultural identity and a driving force of the national economy.
