In a joint operation coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment, with the participation of members of the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) and the National Army against unscrupulous individuals who commit environmental crimes, mainly commuquismo (planting in conuco), within the Protected Areas of Valle Nuevo Park and Montaña La Humeadora National Park.
The operations have been underway since the weekend, after it was determined that the unscrupulous individuals have intensified their environmental criminal activities during these days, in the evening and at night, to evade the stalking and persecution of the authorities.
Members of the military institutions, park rangers, and community leaders from the area, environmental defenders, also participated in the operation.
The Protected Areas of the Dominican Republic are certain areas defined by the Dominican State subject to a legal and institutional framework designed to guarantee the conservation of their particularities and environmental and cultural wealth.
