IDEA Group will send five representatives for the presidential elections on July 28

IDEA detailed that those who will travel to Venezuela are: Vicente Fox, Mireya Moscoso, Miguel Angel Rodriguez, Jorge Tuto Quiroga and Marta Lucia Ramirez

The IDEA Group, made up of more than 30 former presidents and prime ministers from various countries, reported this Saturday that next Friday, July 26, several former heads of state will travel to Venezuela, including Vicente Fox of Mexico, Mireya Moscoso of Panama, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez of Costa Rica and Jorge Tuto Quiroga of Bolivia, as well as the former vice president of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez.

These representatives will be present on behalf of their colleagues to accompany the Venezuelan people in the electoral day of Sunday, July 28, when the candidate who will assume the presidency of the republic will be elected as of January 10, 2025.

In a statement, they expressed their firm belief in the resilience of the popular will and in the majority of the Venezuelan people’s willingness to hold elections that guarantee peace and freedom.

“They carry with them a message of hope and solidarity, recognizing the importance of free will at such a crucial moment in the country’s history.”

On Thursday, July 18, the IDEA Group expressed its concern about the situation in Venezuela surrounding the current campaign.

In his opinionthe administration of Nicolás Maduro has increased repression in recent days against militants of the political organization Vente Venezuela, one of the most recent being the arrest – and subsequent release – of María Corina Machado’s head of security, Milcíades Ávila.

IDEA believes that there is a constant violation of electoral guarantees in the country, which is added to the “attack” in Lara against Machado’s vehicles in which the engine oil was emptied from one of them, while the brake hose of the other was cut.

In this sense, the former presidents believe that, if the paths to democracy in Venezuela are closed, the entire Latin American region would accept “the continuation of the epidemic of elective authoritarianism” that has been eliminating democracy itself and respect for the rule of law.
