The opposition's harsh response to Petro's speech at the opening of Congress

Minutes after President Gustavo Petro’s speech at the opening of the Congress of the Republic, the senator of the Democratic Center, Miguel Uribe Turbay, took the lead in the first opposition reply speech, in which he stated that there will be no constituent assembly in Colombia.

During the aftershock, Uribe Turbay was emphatic that there will not be a ‘fast track’ as President Petro has been proposing for a few days.

“In Colombia there will be no constituent assembly and no ‘fast track’ that seeks to violate the constitution,” said the Senator.

Likewise, Miguel Uribe said that “Colombians are feeling like they are being held hostage in their homes” in the face of the overwhelming cases of drug trafficking and extortion. He added that “guerrillas and criminals rule a third of the country”.

(Also: Petro booed after arriving late to July 20 military parade).

The congressman of the Democratic Center also said that during the government of President Petro “334 social leaders have been murdered and more than 170 massacres have occurred”.

In addition, during his speech, the congressman told the president that “The country is going backwards in your hands. I say this with pain because you were a promise of change and I genuinely believe that you had the hope of doing so, but you have not been able to.”.
