Operational units and personnel of the Peruvian Navy are part of BRACOLPER OURO – 2024, a multinational exercise in which the Navies of Brazil and Colombia also participate, and which aims to train their military forces in joint operations.
These activities involve the use of equipment and systems to stay ready and combat criminal organizations that use river routes for their illicit activities, to the detriment of Amazonian communities.
In this 50th edition of the multinational exercise, the Peruvian Navy participates through the General Command of Operations of the Amazon, with the gunboats BAP “Ucayali”, BAP “Clavero”, BAP “Castilla”, the 1st Marine Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Special Operations Group.
BOOSTING CAPACITIES
This deployment of units and personnel will enable training in areas such as command and control, tactical maneuvers, anti-aircraft warfare, special operations, air operations, shooting exercises, cyber defense, river amphibious operations, among others, and will strengthen security in the Amazon region, and improve the interoperability of naval forces.
The exercise will be carried out in three phases. The first is being carried out from July 17 to 24 in the port of Leticia, Colombia. The second will take place from July 25 to August 2 and will have the city of Iquitos, Peru as its home port. The third will be completed from August 27 to September 9 in the port of Manaus, Brazil.
BRACOLPER operations originated in 1974, when the three countries decided to focus on combined operations in the Amazon, and agreed to carry out the aforementioned multinational exercise annually and uninterruptedly, between the months of July and September, with the conviction that interoperability and coordination are fundamental pillars of its success.
