DP World Dominicana begins transformation of its fleet of vehicles

DP World Dominican Republica logistics solutions provider, announced that it has replaced the first part of its fleet of internal transfer vehicles (ITV) with 100% electric vehicles, as part of the implementation of the Decarbonization Strategy of its operations in the Dominican Republic.

The execution of this first phase consisted of the acquisition of 12 internal transfer vehicle (ITV) units, as part of its commitment to reduce the use of fossil fuelsmainly diesel, through the progressive replacement of electric units and the eventual use of fuels that generate fewer CO2 emissions.

Through a press release it is explained that this execution represented an approximate investment of 3.2 million dollars and includes the incorporation of 12 trucks, five loaders and a charging station.

With the addition of these teams, DP World Dominican Republic It becomes the first organization in the logistics and port sector in the country and the second at the regional level to implement this type of technology.

The implementation of these units will reduce by 4.6% the diesel fuel consumption in its operations, which will represent an annual saving of 100,000 gallons of fuel and a projected reduction of 7,564.02 tons of CO2 over the next decade.

Manuel Martinez, CEO of DP World Dominican Republicstressed that, with the acquisition of this new fleet, the organization reiterates its commitment to generating a positive impact on the environment in which it operates.

  • The first is the reduction of the use of fossil fuels, which aims to progressively replace traditional equipment with electric units.

  • The fourth is focused on reducing energy consumption through various energy efficiency initiatives.
  • The fifth is focused on the eventual offsetting of emissions that cannot be reduced through the direct development of carbon removal projects and/or through the acquisition of carbon certificates.
