The bi-oceanic corridor should pass through Bolivia, says PPK

UPDATE 3:30 PM. President Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki concluded his participation in the Binational Cabinet with his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales confirming his interest in the fact that the bi-oceanic train, which will move from Brazil to Peru, does not pass through the north of the latter as it is planned, but to the south, crossing Bolivian territory.

“When I was in China talking with the premier and the president, I told them that the bi-oceanic train should not go through the north of the Peruvian jungle because it takes a long time (to reach the Pacific coast) but what we want is for it to pass through the south of the country and that is what we have signed, and it is also the most logical route,” Kuczynski said in a conference after the meeting with Morales ended.

It should be remembered that the bi-oceanic train project, which will link the coasts of Brazil and Peru, is promoted by Chinese capital, which has estimated to invest around 60 billion dollars in its execution.

Kuczysnki revealed that agreements were signed between the two countries to develop technology, in defense of the environment and to contribute to strengthening diplomatic relations between the countries of the region.

UPDATE 01:53 PM. During the binational cabinet, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski stated that issues such as arms trafficking and human trafficking will be worked on through a comprehensive strategy with the Bolivian government to address these problems.

“I am sure that reciprocal understanding will help us,” the president said in a few words to the press.

ORIGINAL NOTE President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) expressed his support for the bi-oceanic train project, which will link the coasts of Peru and Brazil, to cross Bolivia.

“In my opinion, as I said in China recently, it should go through Bolivia, instead of through the Brazilian jungle,” said the president.

This will be one of the issues that PPK will address during a binational cabinet in which its Bolivian counterpart, Evo Morales, will participate.

During the meeting, the decontamination of Lake Titicaca and the rivers that both countries share, which would be affected by illegal mining, will also be discussed.

Likewise, the issue of security and national defense will be addressed in aspects related to cross-border crimes such as human trafficking, arms trafficking, smuggling, among others.

Regarding economic issues, social integration and governance will be reviewed.
