Nicaraguan journalist and feminist Fabiola Tercero has been missing for eight days by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. The Inter-American Center for Legal Assistance in Human Rights (Calidh), through its social networks, stated that “the State of Nicaragua has disappeared her.”
Tercero Castro, known for promoting the reading and book exchange space “El Rincón de Fabi”, disappeared on July 12, after her home was raided by the police of the Ortega dictatorship.

Calidh highlighted that journalist and feminist Tercero “always spoke out loud and clear against human rights violations by the dictatorship.”
“We demand the release of journalist Fabiola Tercero,” Calidh said in its publication.
House for jail
Nicaraguan communicators in exile, through their social networks, revealed that Tercero Castro was in Nicaragua under a de facto house arrest regime, imposed by the Ortega dictatorship and that she was forced to go to the police station in District III to sign in every day.

“Terrero’s case is not an isolated one, it is part of a systematic pattern of persecution and repression that the State of Nicaragua has been carrying out against journalists and independent media outlets,” wrote journalist Ricardo Somarriba.
In addition, the group called for a “thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the disappearance of Fabiola Tercero” and for “an immediate cessation of all forms of persecution and harassment against journalists and media outlets.”
Journalist and former political prisoner Miguel Mendoza, the Nicaraguan University Alliance (AUN), and the Nicaraguan Feminist Action Group are some of the organizations and communicators who have so far joined the collective demand for “immediate freedom” for Fabiola Tercero Castro.
Fabiola Tercero has worked as a communicator for feminist platforms and groups. She graduated in Philology and Communication from UNAN-Managua and a couple of years ago she launched the platform El Rincón de Fabi, a space to promote reading and exchange books.
