MÉRIDA, Mexico – The story of Oscar García-López, the Cuban haute couture designer who is loved by The Trump family who crossed the border illegally, has recently been told by a report by Telemundo 51.
Garcia became close to the Trump clan at Mar-A-Lago after becoming friends with and a designer for Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law and Republican presidential candidate.
“He’s one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met, I’m so lucky to call him my friend, and I feel like his career has been so incredible to see come to fruition, and I really couldn’t be more proud,” said Eric’s wife Lara, who has taken center stage during her father-in-law’s current campaign.
Oscar G, as the Cuban calls himself artistically, lived in Mexico for four years and then crossed the border illegally in 2004, a fact that he says is known to the entire family, including the former president, and about which some, like Eric, have asked him for details.
“The United States saw it as a more open possibility for what I wanted to achieve. I crossed the border, something like in the Indiana Jones movies. It was an experience that at first gives you a little fear, but when you get through it, it’s like an adventure,” he said.
Lara says that the fact that Oscar G., whom she met in 2016 after marrying Eric, entered the U.S. illegally reinforces her love for that country and she does not rule out visiting Cuba in the future with her favorite designer.
Lara highlighted the dress Oscar made for her for the presidential inauguration gala that made her feel “like a million dollars.”
Oscar García-López was born in Havana in 1973 and from a very young age he discovered that fashion would be part of his life, according to his website.
