Goodbye to grades? SEP renews Basic Education report cards

New SEP ballots

The SEP shared two examples of report cards for the 2023-2024 school year for primary and secondary school students, which have different designs to be in line with the 2022 Study Plan for Basic Education of the New Mexican School (NEM).

The report card identifies four fields of training: Languages; Knowledge and Scientific Thought; Ethics, Nature and Societies; and Human and Community, which group together different disciplines, as subjects were previously.

In the field of Languages, we find Spanish, Indigenous Language as Mother Tongue, Indigenous Language as Second Language, English and Arts. In the case of Knowledge and Scientific Thought, it has disciplines such as Mathematics and Sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry).

Ethics, Nature and Societies is made up of Civic Education and Ethics, History and Geography. Finally, Human and Community Education is made up of subjects such as Physical Education, Technology and Socio-emotional Education/Tutoring.

Are degrees going to disappear?

The SEP clarifies that school grades are not disappearing, but are grouped into learning phases. This will be reflected in the design of the report cards and in the form of the evaluation.

In the case of Preschool education (Phase 2) The reports include four training fields and an observation space for each evaluation period, but numerical values are not considered.

In the case of Primary (phases 3, 4 and 5), for the six grades, the report card will have the four formative fields in which they will have three partial evaluations, in addition to the observations section.

Finally, in the case of education Secondary (phase 6), the document will have the training fields and disciplines, as well as a section for observations.

On all ballots, the top part will have the name of the student and the school, grade, school year, CURP, Work Center Code (CCT) and group.

Finally, it also indicates the final average, the number of attendances and whether the student has completed the grade.
