Carlos Casallo is an athlete who ran from the city of Huancayo to Lima in search of help for his brother who is in poor health. After almost six days of running and his stay in the city of Lima, he managed to be heard by the Ministry of Health and his brother was transferred to Lima for medical attention.

The athlete who lives in Huamancaca Chico, Chupaca province, decided to head to the city of Lima on Friday, July 12. With a backpack, his medals and hope, he traveled almost 380 kilometers, and after three days he arrived in the capital. Carlos was looking for help in hospitals to transport his brother, however, no one paid attention to him.
For almost three days he slept on the street, “People looked at me strangely, I am not a criminal, I just hid myself away like a little animal,” until his story reached a television channel. The ATV group broadcast the story of Carlos Casallo and his brother.
Carlos’s brother is 32 years old. Four months ago he was admitted to the Daniel Alcides Carrión hospital for liver surgery. Unfortunately, his recovery was not as expected. Two months later he underwent surgery again because he had ascites, but he still did not recover. That was when a doctor told him that it was better to transfer him to Lima in search of better specialists.

“I ask the president, health ministers and congressmen, I want my brother not to die”was the request that Carlos made at a national level. While his voice broke and his tears flowed, he asked for his brother to be saved since they both have each other, his brother was the one who gave him an education and helped him get ahead. Carlos’s moving story reached the top brass of the health sector, who promised to provide help to the athlete.
On the night of July 18, Dr. Luis Quiroz, head of the SIS, gave Carlos the news that his brother Eduardo had already boarded the ambulance to be transferred to the 2 de Mayo Hospital in Lima, where specialists were waiting for him for treatment, and the SIS would cover all expenses.
