Averu issued a statement in which they affirm that the “installed capacity” of the universities is available to respond to Venezuelans. In addition, the facilities are made available to generate dialogue and debate of plural ideas.
The Venezuelan Association of University Rectors (Averu) issued a statement on the evening of Thursday, July 18, in which it states that the autonomous universities recognize the need for transformations in the country and to do so, they must ensure that dialogue prevails in a broad way to build agreements with a broad vision together with the different sectors.
In this sense, Averu makes available the installed capacity of universities in order to be able to provide the response that citizens expect to obtain in the economic, political, scientific and social areas, always focused on the educational field, and, in addition, they ratify the willingness of educational institutions to be spaces for dialogue and debate of plural ideas in search of knowledge.
They therefore hope that the events will serve to strengthen and ratify Venezuela’s democratic vocation within the framework of respect for citizens’ rights and their free exercise.
They also call on the population to vote in the elections on July 28, because democracy is based on respect for the rule of law and the participation of the people, and they hope that after the elections the situation in Venezuela can return to normal.

Averu, in this regard, stressed that the institutions responsible for the process must comply with and enforce the guarantees in favor of voters and political parties. On the one hand, he assured that State agencies have a responsibility to guarantee security and safeguard sovereignty for the exercise of voting and the safekeeping of electoral material, while the electoral body must transmit confidence.

Averu’s statement was made after the political activity that took place in the Plaza del Rectorado of the UCV headed by the coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, and the candidate for the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, in which the rumor spread that allegedly permission had not been given to carry it out.
In view of this, the Information and Communications Department of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) denied an alleged statement that was spread on social media denying permission for such an activity.
The institution clarified that there are several elements that support the falsification of the university’s official documents, such as the use of the UCV shield in another presentation. The false statement also indicates that the University City was declared a World Heritage Site in 2001, when in reality the designation was made in 2000.
