The issue of homophobic chants uttered by some players continues to linger. Argentina against the French internationals after the victory against Colombia in the final of the America Cup. Several footballers, on the bus that was taking them to the stadium exit, sang a song in which the origin of the French players was questioned. And everything ended up in the offices. France denounced and Argentina responded.
The criticism focused on Enzo Fernández, Who was criticised on social media by his Chelsea teammate Fofana, who called him a racist. Given the current situation and the magnitude of the issue, Rodrigo de Paul has taken matters into his own hands and has come to the defence of his teammate in the Albiceleste. This is what he explained on the programme ‘Soñé’.
“The intention was never discriminatory. We don’t analyse the lyrics of these songs. We can understand that people who have suffered racism don’t like it, but there are places,” he said, alluding to the fact that social media is not the right place to resolve the issue. “If one of Enzo’s colleagues feels offended, he should call him, not publish it on social media. I think there is a bit of malice there, or the desire to put Enzo in a situation that has nothing to do with him. It’s very strange, it’s like kicking someone when they’re knocked out.”

According to him, these problems should be resolved internally. “These are people who are with you all the time in the locker room, on trips. There is trust. Unfollowing him (on social media) seems pointless to me. You can call him and say ‘listen, we are hurt, ‘Won’t you post an apology?’, and that’s it, there is no need to make all this fuss.”
