With just over a week to go until the start of the Olympic Games In Paris, five Cubans competed this Wednesday in the rally Athletics from Arbobaleno, Italywhere they dominated some tests.

Among the winners was Roxana Gómez, thanks to her time of 50.89 seconds in the 400-meter race, which could not be matched by any of her rivals, according to a report from the sports portal Hit.

The newspaper said the competition was divided into three series, ranked according to the best times of each competitor, and the final order was determined based on the times achieved.

Behind the Cuban were the French Emma Montoya (52.83) and the South African Marlie Viljoen (52.92), who shared the race with the Cuban.

The publication adds that something similar happened in the 100-meter event, where Yunisleidy was the fastest, covering the distance in 11.41 seconds. Behind her were the Bulgarian Kristen Radekanov (11.72) and the Australian San Geddes (11.76).

In the shorter men’s race, Reynaldo Espinosa stopped the clock at 10.39 seconds to follow the winner, Senegalese Mamadou Sarr (10.24). Third place went to American Wakih Bennet (10.52).

Luis Enrique Zayas was among the three winners in the long jump, but again with a poor performance, reaching a maximum of just 2.10 metres, in what was his second competitive appearance of the season after recovering from an injury.

The winner of that event was Chilean Nicolás Numair (2.16) and second place went to host Mohamed Mohammadu (2.13).

The other Cuban who participated in the event on Italian soil was long jumper Alejandro Parada, who came fourth after reaching 7.72 metres. The honours in this event went to the Swede Thobias Montler (8.01), the Dominican Tristan James (7.78) and the American Damarcus Simpsom (7.75), in that order.

The five Cubans who competed in the competition returned to the Spanish city of Guadalajara, where the island’s athletics team had its headquarters prior to the event under the five rings.

Cuba will have 18 representatives in Olympic athletics, with the greatest chances of winning in the triple jump, mainly with Leyanis Pérez and Lázaro Martínez.
