Judge Jorge Luis Chavezof the Seventh National Preparatory Investigation Court, ordered the impediment of departure for a period of 12 months for the former president Peter Paul Kuczynskithe former Minister of Transport and Communications Jose Ortiz Riveraand the former executive president of Proinversión Rene Cornejo Diazin the framework of the South Interoceanic case, according to RPP.
The three are investigated by the prosecutor José Domingo Pérez due to the crime of unfair collusion to the detriment of the State for allegedly having agreed with the Brazilian company Odebrecht during Alejandro Toledo’s administration (2001-2006) by benefiting it with the concession of the South Interoceanic highway (sections 2, 3 and 4).
Deputy prosecutors Diego Mauricio Torres and Luz Flores Tarapa, on behalf of the Lava Jato Special Team, had requested that the defendants be barred from leaving the country for 36 months, but the magistrate finally decided to accept the request in part.

According to the resolution, to which the radio station had access, the restrictive measure taken by the judge was appropriate and proportional due to the nature of the crime, which is serious. Therefore, it was necessary for those under investigation to remain in national territory to guarantee the development of the proceedings.
Currently, the former president Peter Paul Kuczynski (2016-2018) is under house arrest with other restrictions for the Westfield Capital case, in which he is being investigated for alleged money laundering. These measures were imposed in 2019 and expire in April 2022.
