Government concludes duties of Victor Garcia Toma as ambassador to the UN

The Government of Peru has terminated the duties of Víctor García Toma as permanent ambassador to the United Nations (UN), according to Supreme Resolution 135-2024-RE published this Thursday, July 18, in the bulletin of legal norms of El Peruano.

The Foreign Ministry said that the exact date of the end of his duties will be determined later, and that his credentials and full powers are cancelled.

Víctor García Toma, who assumed office on September 15, 2023, had been appointed Peru’s representative to the UN on September 5 of the same year.

Previously, he served as president of the Constitutional Court in 2002 and as Minister of Justice during Alan García’s second government. García Toma had replaced Manuel Rodríguez Cuadros as Peru’s representative to the UN.

In his place, Enrique Román Morey has been appointed as the new permanent ambassador of Peru to the UN. Román Morey, who had been appointed advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 30, 2023, will now assume this important diplomatic role.

The resolutions that formalize these changes bear the signatures of President Dina Boluarte and the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Eduardo Arana, who is currently in charge of the Foreign Relations office due to the absence of Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea, who is on an official trip to the United States.
