In a recent and momentous supreme resolution, the government of Peru has announced the withdrawal of Victor Garcia Takes from his position as permanent ambassador to the United Nations (UN).
Supreme Resolution 135-2024-RE, published in the El Peruano legal regulations bulletin, specifies that García Toma’s functions as ambassador will end on a date to be determined by a subsequent ministerial resolution. Likewise, his credentials and full powers are cancelled, thus formalizing his cessation in the diplomatic position.
García Toma, who previously served as president of the Constitutional Court and as Minister of Justice during Alan García’s second government, had held the diplomatic post with a prominent presence in the international community.

Executive Branch appoints new representative to the UN
In a recent decision, the Executive Branch of Peru has appointed Ambassador Enrique Armando Román Morey as the new Permanent Representative of the country to the United Nations (UN) in New York, United States. The appointment was made official through Supreme Resolution No. 136-2024-RE.
Ambassador Román Morey, who is retired from the Diplomatic Service of the Republic, will assume his new responsibilities with the aim of strengthening Peru’s presence and participation in the UN. His experience and track record in the diplomatic field are qualities that stand out for this important role.
The Government of Peru trusts that Ambassador Román Morey will play a crucial role in consolidating multilateral relations and defending national interests in the international arena.
