The Concepción Volcano, located on the Island of Ometepe, in Lake Nicaragua, began to register unusual activity that included explosions that were heard by the residents of the area, followed by the expulsion of gases, a dense and high column of ash that has darkened the surroundings and rocks that end up on the external slopes.
Residents of Ometepe have shared photographs and videos from different angles in which you can see the column of gases and ashes that the colossus is expelling, which, according to the locals, has not recorded significant activity since 1956.

On social networks, the residents of Ometepe have shared stories of the phenomenon. One of them points out that at around 2:00 in the afternoon, first a “rumbling” was heard and then the dense column of ash and gases was noticed rising.
Concepción is the second largest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. Volcanologists distinguish it in their studies for being a “perfect cone volcano” located 1,600 meters above sea level.
The records of the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) show at least 20 eruptions in recent decades, the most recent being in February 2007.
The residents of Ometepe have expressed through publications on social networks that although they are used to the activity of Concepción, they always worry, especially when there are ash emissions that make the atmosphere worse.
Until the closing of this note, Ineter had not issued an official communication note explaining what they attributed the phenomenon to.
