King Dimas, gold and silver in the Thailand World Cup

Panamanian lifter Rey Dimas won gold and silver medals in the World Cup, held in Thailand, on his way to obtaining direct qualification for the Paralympic Games, which will be held next August in Paris, France.

The Panamanian competes in the 72 kilogram category of parapowerlifting and won this gold medal, by lifting 200 kilos; To this is added the gold obtained in the World Cup in Egypt, the first in this series of three events, which end in June, in Georgia.

Dimas, practically with a position in Paris, was accompanied by his coach Máximo Víquez, who highlighted the importance of this cycle of competitions so that Rey arrives in Paris with one of the eight direct places assigned in this category.

Currently, Rey is number 1 in America and 6 in the World in his category; However, the Panamanian athlete is not confident and continues his preparation for the World Cup in Georgia.

Víquez explained that in Thailand Rey won with 200 kilos, with a movement valid for gold, which consolidates Rey as one of the best in Panama and the World. Furthermore, he indicated that the silver medal was the product of the sum of the three attempts that the athletes had in their competition.

Dimas said that he dedicates this medal to God, his family and all of Panama, which has always been aware of its international and local participations.

The Panamanian athlete pointed out that his main objective, together with his coach Víquez, is to reach the Paralympic Games and bring a medal to Panama, which is why since his return home he has not stopped training.

Dimas commented that his goal right now is to go to the Paris Paralympic Games and get that long-awaited medal. “It would be a great honor,” she concluded.
