The president of Aerolineas Argentinas, Pablo Ceriani, showed his resounding rejection of the unemployment of activities convened for this weekend, by air traffic controllers and other professionals of the union that make up the Association of Technicians and Employees of Protection and Safety of Air Navigation (ATEPSA).
In a statement, Ceriani stressed that “the measure of force would affect dozens of commercial flights with delays and cancellations in air itineraries”, especially during the Carnival holiday. Although ATEPSA affirmed that “the unemployment it will not interfere with the schedule during the long weekend.”
Likewise, the head of Aerolineas Argentinas warned that a unemployment of activities in the middle of the summer season “would also harm the country’s tourism sector”given that during these months a large mobilization of people is expected throughout the national territory.
“The stoppage measure will not only affect thousands of passengers waiting to travel in the coming days, but it will also harm the Argentine tourism industry, the hardest hit since the arrival of the pandemic,” warned the manager.
This measure is irrational and irresponsible, especially in the midst of this successful summer season.
Air traffic controller strike
This morning, the workers of the ATEPSA union announced with a statement that, “Starting next Friday, February 18, they will begin to apply force measures in all the air terminals of the country”, due to the failure in the negotiations with the Government.
In the text, ATEPSA pointed out that “the unemployment It will be carried out progressively and in staggered schedules. so as not to harm 100% air traffic. In addition, they clarify that the force measures include “the suspension of takeoffs of commercial flights, cargo and other aerial activities.”
The union, which includes air traffic controllers, aeronautical information service technicians, aircraft and rescue and rescue personnel, has been negotiating with the Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA) for months for improvements in the union’s working conditions.
However, the dialogue stalled after the EANA only offered a 10% salary increase to trade unionists. This increase, for ATEPSA, is insufficient because their requests “go beyond salary”.
According to the review of the newspaper El Destape, the force measure could affect more than 140 commercial flights in all the country’s airports, this only for the return trips from the Carnival holiday.
