The National Consumer Service (SERNAC) issued an alert last Thursday, May 9, about the counterfeiting of a well-known brand of coffee, endangering the health of consumers. Through an official statement, the national director, Andrés Herrera, announced that they will file a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office due to this worrying situation.
The brand affected by counterfeiting is Nescafé, specifically in its refills. coffee instant, directly impacting retailers and consumers. The counterfeit product is being marketed in different areas of Santiago, in free fairs, retail establishments and mini markets, and even in some regions of the country.
Andrés Herrera warned that the counterfeit product of coffee It does not correspond to an authentic product of the recognized brand and highlighted that its consumption may represent a risk to the health of consumers. This situation is particularly serious since it involves unscrupulous manipulation that plays with people’s health and deceives small merchants.
Faced with this scenario, the director of the SERNAC He called on the population to always choose products in formal commerce and on merchants to obtain supply chains in an official and authentic manner. Likewise, they announced that they will request the support of the Public Ministry so that those who commit this type of crimes can respond to justice.
To recognize the counterfeit product, it is important to keep in mind that there is no 50 gram “refill” format associated with the line of coffee Nescafé instant. Additionally, the counterfeit product includes an outdated label that has not been present on the brand’s coffee products in more than five years. According to the company itself, the label does not identify the batch number or barcode of the product.
