Tragedies: body repatriated two years later, body of girl missing, and another shot dead

The tragedies that occurred while seeking to achieve the American dream continue to hit Nicaraguan families. After two years of having lost his life, drowned in the Rio Grande, the remains of Francisco Téllez were finally repatriated, while the disappearance of the young Judith Lazo Rodríguez, who died in Mexico during the journey to the US, is reported. In Kansas City, the shooting murder of Néstor José Rivera is reported.

The humanitarian organization that helps migrants, Community of Nicaraguans in Texas (TNC), reported through its social networks that, after 2 years and 3 months of having drowned in the Rio Grande, and after nine After months of insistent efforts, the remains of Francisco Javier Téllez were finally repatriated to Nicaragua, arriving in the country this Monday, May 17, on an Avianca airline flight.

According to data shared by TNC, the compatriot lost his life when trying to cross to US soil through the Rio Grande, on February 17, 2022.

The body was located on a field trip to the border area, by a TNC work team, at the Webb County morgue, in Laredo, Texas.

At the time of locating the body, the family had no idea of ​​his death, since the “coyote” who had taken charge of his transfer had deceived them by telling them that he was in immigration and that is why he did not communicate. It was until the NGO volunteers found him on a morgue list with a Nicaraguan ID that they were able to tell the family members the painful truth.

To certify that it was the Nicaraguan Téllez, in addition to the recognition of his clothing, the photograph and the identification that he was carrying at the time of drowning, the respective DNA tests were carried out.

The other tragedy is the one that occurred with the young Judith Lazo Rodríguez, 23 years old, and originally from the municipality of El Ayote, in Chontales, who, according to information handled by TNC, died two months ago when she was hiding in a warehouse, along with to other migrants, in the custody of the coyotes who transported them to the United States.

The information known to the organization indicates that the young Nica would have died on March 24 of this year, in that winery in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico. The coyote, upon realizing the girl’s death, moved the rest of the people to another place and her body now does not appear in any morgue.

The deceased girl, at the time of her death, was wearing a pink shirt and striped pajamas, with drawings of dolls, according to the description received by the agency.

TNC asks people who have any information about the case to contact “anonymously” at the number (210) 744-5773. “The main objective is to help the family recover Judith’s body and bury her in her native town of El Ayote,” urges the humanitarian organization.

Shot to death

The third tragedy in recent days involves the Nicaraguan migrant Néstor José Rivera, 29, who, according to reports known to TNC from Kansas City, was shot dead on May 11 at night, in a Hispanic neighborhood of that city ​​in the state of Missouri, United States.

Local police are still continuing investigations into the case to offer a version that includes the possible motives that led to the murder. Néstor Rivera had arrived in the US a year and a half ago. He was originally from the municipality of El Viejo, in the department of Chinandega.
