After the electoral defeat on May 5, the Panameñista leader, Jaime Alemán, stated that José Blandón must step aside “to allow a new leadership to emerge committed to the fundamental values of the party and the country.”
Alemán advocated for the beginning of a peaceful, orderly transition process, without excuses or delays that makes possible the renewal of the leadership of the group.
He indicated that the adverse results of the last two general elections, with Blandón as the protagonist as a candidate for President and then as Vice President of the Republic, have been among the worst in the political history of the group.
Alemán announced that the party’s lawyers are seriously evaluating the legal viability and the correct steps to enable this orderly transition to renew the current leadership, in the event that Blandón does not understand the historical moment and detachment that he must execute in the face of the latest defeat. electoral.
“I address you, the conventional ones, with the firm conviction that together we can achieve positive change, it is time for a new generation to fight for a more transparent, prosperous and democratic party,” he said.
For Alemán, the electorate has spoken clearly in the last two elections, so the message must be understood by the party president.
“Let us not allow personal interests to come before the well-being of our Nation and never again.”
