At least 42 people died when a dam burst in a town north of Nairobi, the capital of Kenyathe local governor informed AFP on Monday.
The East African country is facing heavy rain and flooding.
“Forty-two dead is a preliminary estimate. There are still more in the mud. We are working on getting them back,” said Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika.
The dam burst near the Rift Valley village of Mai Mahiu, sweeping away homes and cutting off a road.
Not counting this incident, 76 people have lost their lives in Kenya since March due to the heavier than usual rains that hit this region, aggravated by the El Niño climate phenomenon.
