Opponents of the Nicaraguan dictatorship consider that the closure of Daniel Ortega’s embassy in South Korea represents a rapprochement with the North Korean regime. This possible approach of the Ortega Murillo regime increases the danger that the dictator represents for the Central American region, said Eliseo Núñez, political analyst and executive secretary of Monteverde.

Núñez believes that Daniel Ortega is a threat to the region, regardless of his relations with North Korea, but because of his relations with the dictatorships of Iran, Russia and China.

«This only increases this type of danger that Ortega represents for the region and the United States. What happens is that the United States still does not see Ortega as a military threat and that is why it does not place him in the position of urgency to resolve the issue,” he indicated.

The analyst stated that all of Ortega’s movements indicate that he is consolidating himself as an “anti-United States pole” in the region and has a “contagion effect” among the rest of the countries.

For the exiled politician and former presidential candidate, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, the closure of the Nicaraguan embassy in South Korea and the eventual opening in the North is a “move of alignment with the axis of evil.”

«The Korean dictator must have told Ortega that he could not have both embassies. “Nicaragua cites financial problems, while opening embassies in Africa,” he wrote in X.

The former ambassador of Nicaragua to the Organization of American States (OAS) Arturo McFields He called on the governments of Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala to “be concerned and concerned about Nicaragua’s dangerous proximity to North Korea.”

«This destabilizes regional security. “It is a serious threat to the prosperity and peace of Central America,” she considers.

For the Sandinista dissident and political exile, Dora María Téllez, the closure of the Nicaraguan embassy in South Korea has to do with China, that is, the commercial, economic and political interests of the Ortega regime are completely oriented towards the connection with the People’s Republic of China.

«… this makes him withdraw from the relationship with South Korea and Taiwan, which was already a couple of years ago. Furthermore, it avoids the expense of diplomatic delegation which is not useful. The main market that the Ortega Murillos want is China and the relationship of an economic and political nature is with China,” he stated.

«Right now the business model is basically that the Chinese export to Nicaragua and do not import from Nicaragua. Nicaraguan exports to China are small, minimal. Nicaragua’s main markets continue to be the United States and Central America,” he added.

The opposition member said that Ortega’s strategic political relationship “is cemented” with China where there are probably other interests and that she does not see greater rapprochement with North Korea.

«There has always been a relationship and I don’t see any threat to the security (of the region) happening. The relationship with Russia does pose a problem because the Russians have gotten involved in the field of security and defense in Nicaragua; “and this is a much more serious thing,” he concluded.
