He president of FC Barcelona Joan Laporta said on Monday that the club will ask for the “Clásico” to be repeated if they can prove that the referees made a mistake by not validating a “ghost goal” by Lamine Yamal.
The current champion of the Spanish championship lost 3-2 on Sunday against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, in a match with several controversial actions that left the meringues with an 11-point advantage at the top of the League.
One of them was a shot by Yamal after a corner kick, which could have crossed the goal line before Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin could clear the ball.
Without goal line technology in Spain, referees used VAR to try confirm whether or not the ball had crossed the line but they did not succeed and the goal did not go up on the scoreboard, at a time when the game was 1-1.
Laporta requested that the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and the technical committee of referees send Barça all the shots of the incident and the audios of the conversation between the referees.
“If, once this documentation has been analyzed, the club understands that an error occurred in the assessment of the play, As we think, we will undertake all actions opportune measures to reverse the situation without obviously ruling out any necessary judicial actions,” warns the leader.
“If it is confirmed that it was a legal goal, as we think, We will go further and ask for a replay of the match, just as has happened in some European match due to a VAR error,” he continued.
Coach Xavi Hernández said Sunday after the game that it was a “shame“that Spanish football did not have goal line technology.
Laporta also criticized a “bad management” of VAR and added that its use “continues to cause confusion and contradictory criteria depending on the games and teams.”
The Barcelona protested two penalties not signaled during the Classic, calling for fouls in the area on Yamal and Fermín López.
