The electricity demand in the month of January 2022 it increased by 5.54% compared to the same month of 2021, the month in which the demand had contracted by 2.36%. This was revealed in its most recent bulletin by XM, operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and administrator of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM).

Discriminated by type of consumer, in the residential and small business demand (regulated market) there was a growth of 1.91%; For its part, the consumption of industry and commerce (unregulated market) increased by 13.48%, compared to the same month of the previous year.
Guaviare is the region of the country with the highest growth in demand for electricity, during January it presented a growth of 13.17%; followed by Oriente with 8.08%; Center with 7.38%; Caribbean with 6.24%; Antioch 3.77%; THC (Tolima, Huila, Caquetá) with 1.89%; South with 1.86%; CQR (Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda) with 1.68% and Valle with 0.85%. Regarding Chocó, it presented a decrease of 1.5%. “In January, the energy demand was 6,277.91 GWh-month, which represents a growth of 5.54% compared to the consumption of January 2021.

The economic activities that have the greatest participation in the non-regulated market (industry and commerce) are: industries manufacturing and exploitation of mines and quarries, with a growth of 5.92% and 33.46%, respectively”, explained Jaime Alejandro Zapata Uribe, manager of the XM National Dispatch Center.
