After the meeting held this Sunday by the president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, with the four peasant communities of the province of Chumbivilcas (Cusco), which kept the road that leads to the Las Bambas mine blocked, a “truce” was agreed. of 45 days as an “act of good faith and confidence in the Government”. This is how it is read in the signed minutes released this afternoon by the PCM.
Among the agreements signed with the Executive to lift the measure of force, complied with since January 27, it appears that the mining company MMG Las Bambas “will consider the communities of the Ccpacmarca district -through which the Mining Corridor passes- as an area of social and environmental interest”.
This implies, according to the act, contributions for the implementation of sustainable development projects.
Another agreement is that the National Government will monitor the process of the fourth modification of the Environmental Impact Study (MEIA) of MMG Las Bambas before Senace.
In addition, it is established that the National Government will issue a ministerial resolution to form and recognize a specific working group for the communities of Sayhua, Tahuay, Ccapacmarca and Huascabamba with the participation of the National Government and the MMG Las Bambas company.
“Said working group will address the agenda of the four communities and will be formed within a maximum period of 30 days.“, it reads.
In another point it is read that the PCM will coordinate a meeting with the Constitutional Court and the Judiciary in which the four communities mentioned and their lawyer, as well as congressmen from the Cusco region, will participate on March 15, in order to deal with the repeal of the ministerial resolution that classifies the southern mining corridor as a national route.
Other truces occurred in the efforts of the previous cabinet chiefs Guido Bellido and Mirtha Vásquez. The first also participated in today’s meeting in his capacity as parliamentarian for Cusco. In addition to Minister Torres, the Ministers of Transport and Energy and Mines participated.
