(EFE).- Cuba eliminated as of this Sunday the mandatory quarantine for travelers from eight African countries, measure imposed in December to stop the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Nor will they continue to take samples when entering the country and the sanitary protocols that apply to all residents abroad will be applied again.
Cuba requires those who enter the country to have a complete vaccination schedule and a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours.
The Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, considered that the extra measures for these eight African countries are no longer necessary in the current epidemiological situation on the Island.

The number of new daily cases has been down for two weeks in the country, where experts consider that omicron – the most contagious variant, although normally with less serious conditions – is already the prevalent mutation.
The experts who advise the Ministry of Public Health consider that the current wave has already reached its peak and that the number of new positives will continue to decline progressively.
This Sunday, 898 new infections and 5 deaths were registered, fourth day of this week below a thousand.
The measure was taken in early December and affected people from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi and Eswatini.
The first suspected case of ómicron was announced on November 25, but the infected person -from South Africa- was not a carrier of the variant.
