The truckers union of the northern zone announced that this Monday the strike that they had been holding since Friday of last week will end. Measure that began after the murder of the young truck driver Bryan Castillo at the hands of three migrants of Venezuelan nationality.
According to the president of the Antofagasta Transport Union Federation (Asogretrans), Erwin Castillo, the removal of the trucks that were blocking the various routes in the area will begin soon.
“In the course of this Monday, routes 5, D28 and B-400 are going to be cleared, the strike is lifted because an agreement was reached with the three points that we were asking for,” he said.
Along the same lines, he maintained that Antofagasta and Iquique will be unblocked, but that they do not have information on the rest of the blockades throughout the country, so as for them, there will be no closure from “Arica to Antofagasta.”
On the other hand, Jonathan Cortés, one of the union’s spokesmen, was satisfied with the solution that was proposed to them regarding their requirements.
“The strike is over, let’s take a lesson from this, all the points that we expected were met,” he said. It is expected that the removal of the trucks will begin at noon in conjunction with the funeral procession of the young Bryan Castillo.
