Eduardo Romero was one of the most important golfers in the history of Argentina.

The successful former golfer and current mayor of the Cordovan municipality of Villa Allende, Eduardo “Gato” Romero, died this Sunday at the age of 67, the commune that was in his charge officially reported.

After finishing his career as a golfer, he dedicated himself to provincial politics, and in 2015, enrolled in the PRO, he won the mayor of Villa Allende by a wide margin, being re-elected in the 2019 elections.

“With deep pain, the Municipality of Villa Allende informs that, at the age of 67, Mayor Eduardo Romero has just passed away, for us and the world El Gato”expressed the Cordovan municipality in a statement released on social networks.

“Eduardo Romero was, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding and recognized residents of the city, who represented us throughout the world through his sports career as a golfer, but, above all, as a neighbor illustrious man, who even a few years ago accepted and embarked on his latest challenge: to be mayor of the city that saw him develop and grow as an athlete and as a person,” the text completed.

Romero was born and raised in the humble neighborhood of El Cóndor, in front of the Villa Allende golf club where his father was a caddy and was the one who made him venture into the exciting world of balls, clubs and holes, from where he imagined that, Due to his visible skills since he was a child, he would reach, as he did, the pinnacle of that sport on a world level by winning the US Open Senior, the greatest conquest of his professional career.

Along with Roberto De Vicenzo, he was one of the leading figures in the history of Argentine golf.

In 1978 he married Adriana García, his wife until the end of his days, with whom he had a daughter, Dolores.

Given the death of dear Eduardo “Gato” Romero, mayor of Villa Allende, a man committed to his people, I send my deepest condolences to all his family, friends, loved ones and residents of this city”, The governor of Córdoba, Juan Schiaretti, wrote on his twitter account.
