There was a riot in Sao Paulo after altercations broke out between Palmeiras fans who had seen their team lose in the Mundialito final against Chelsea
A man was shot and killed during a riot on Saturday after altercations broke out between fans of the palm trees who had seen their team lose to the Chelsea in the final of the FIFA Club World CupBrazilian police said.
The man, who police said was an off-duty prison guard, was shot outside Palmeiras’ stadium in Sao Paulo, where thousands of fans had gathered to watch the game on giant screens. “There were some outbreaks of fighting between fans, which sparked a riot and one man was shot,” a military police statement said.
Riot police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. One man was arrested, according to the release. The images will be analyzed to identify other people involved in the unrest, said police, who continued to patrol the area to prevent further unrest.
