DEIS: February adds 743 deaths from Covid-19, the highest number since August 2021, despite the drop in infections registered by the Minsal

This Saturday, February 12, the Ministry of Health (Minsal) confirmed 35,841 new infections of Covid-19 in the country, a decrease of 2,605 cases in relation to those reported yesterday Friday (38,446). In addition, according to the information provided by the health authority, for the first time in the year it was recorded that the number of infections was lower than that recorded a week ago (on Saturday, February 5, there were 36,297 cases).

In contrast to the drop registered by the Minsal, the Department of Statistics and Information (DEIS) of the Health portfolio recorded the highest number of deaths with Covid-19 in six months. In twelve days there are 743 deaths associated with the coronavirus disease.

The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, maintained that “the new cases reported today (35,841) show a very slight decrease compared to those reported on Saturday, February 5 (36,297). A drop in cases compared to the same day of the week previous one that had not been registered for more than two months”.

“We continue to have a high number of daily cases during this week but we can see that the growth rate, compared to the same day of the previous week, shows a decrease in the previous 7 and 14 days. If last Saturday we showed an increase of 53% in relation to the previous 7 days, this Saturday, February 12, we can see a growth of 9% compared to the last 7 days,” explained Minister Paris.

At the same time, the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS) reported, in the same report made by the Health portfolio due to the pandemic, 94 deaths related to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours and entered in the Civil Registry. This result positions February 2022 with 743 confirmed deaths in twelve days, the highest figure since August of last year; when 1,270 deaths were reported in total.

In addition, according to the DEIS, those who died from Covid-19 in the last seven days total 534, the highest record since July of last year (565). The record is also 92.78% higher than the sum of the first week of February, where there were 277 deaths from Covid-19.

In the pandemic report, hospitalizations were also reported, which also registered unprecedented figures. There are 790 patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU), the highest number since August 25, 2021 (796). Revenues have increased 37.87% in the last seven days; and in the last two weeks the rise is 85.45%.
