The Government of Santa Fe called for next Thursday a meeting of the Provincial Security Boardwhich was demanded by sectors of the opposition, after in January last will be registered 40 homicides in the district, 24 of them in the city of rosary beadsofficial sources reported.
Through the Ministry of Government, Justice and Human Rights, the government of Omar Perotti convened the Provincial Security Board, as established by the emergency law on this matter.
The meeting “will be led by the governor Omar Perotti, followed by the Ministers of Government, Celia Arena, and of Security, Jorge Lagna, in addition to the presence of representatives of the Executive Power, Legislative Power, Supreme Court of Justice, Attorney General, Regional Prosecutors and the Security Force”, the government said in a statement.
He added that the Board “pursues the objective of institutionalizing a space for dialogue between the different spheres of the Santa Fe State in terms of Public Security policies in the territory.”
The convening of this body had been requested by different sectors of the political opposition in the province, in response to the growth of crimes in Santa Fe, fundamentally in Rosario and in the context of violent disputes between organizations linked to illegal drug trade markets.
The latest report from the province’s Public Security Observatory, released yesterday, shows that 40 homicides were recorded in Santa Fe last January.
Of these, 24 took place in the most populous city in the district, Rosario, among which the triple crime of a couple and their one-and-a-half-year-old baby after a marriage of a married couple prosecuted for drug trafficking stood out.
In provincial terms, since 2014 there were two years in which more murders occurred than in the last January, which were 2020, with 45 homicides in the first month of the year, and 2015, with 42.
In the case of the Rosario Department, the 24 homicides last month were surpassed by the records for 2014 and 2015, when there were 28 murders each year, according to Observatory statistics.
None of the 24 crimes that occurred in Rosario in January was on the occasion of robberywhile half -50%-, were classified as linked to the “illegal economy-criminal organizations”; 20% to “interpersonal conflicts” and 25% are under investigation.
In this context, the Government of Santa Fe decided to summon different state and social actors to the first meeting of the year of the Provincial Security Board.
